To keep your jeans looking good and lasting longer, learn how to wash your jeans the right way.

Because of color bleeding, you’d ideally wash jeans with other jeans, but thecare labelcan guide you.

If the label recommends washing them separately or the jeans have never been washed before, do it.

Pretreat Stains

Pretreat anyspecific stainswith a stain remover or a dab of laundry detergent.

Work it into the fabric with your fingers or a soft-bristled brush.

Let the cleaner work for about 10 minutes before washing the jeans.

Cold water is preferable as it helps to preserve the fabric.

Choose the gentle cycle and use your regular laundry detergent.

Tip

It is best to wash jeans with other jeans of the same color.

Turn them right side out and gently tug and smooth the seams and pockets.

Designer jeans or those worn for office work likely don’t need washing after every wear.

Check them for any obvious stains and remove those.

Then, hang the jeans to air out for at least 24 hours.

This will give the fibers time to bounce back to their original state and prevent baggy knees.

If the jeans are new but heavily soiled, add one tablespoon of laundry detergent to remove the soil.

Chlorine bleach will cause denim to fade.

If you want to whiten or brighten jeans, use an oxygen-based bleach.
