In my experience, the best places to buy furniture are often larger retailers.
The Spruce
Article is one of my favoriteplaces to buy couchesand lounge chairs, which weve tested here at The Spruce.
But if youre solely shopping for furniture, its the big-ticket items that really wow here.
No matter your style or your homes aesthetic, you might find just about anything here.

My favorite aspect of shopping at Wayfair is the variety available across every price point.
Just keep in mind that pricing can really vary from month to month at Wayfair.
Quality and ease of assembly will vary from product to product, too.
If youre looking forapartment-friendly furnitureor options for kids, youll find plenty of choices here.
All of Burrows furniture is designed with nods to American mid-century modern and contemporary Scandinavian styles.
Our only complaint about Burrow?
We wish there were even more pieces to choose from, with a bit more variety in style.
In fact, more than half of the retailers products support at least one sustainability initiative.
The product selection also includes a mix of artisan-made pieces.
Plus, Im a big fan of the customization options offered by West Elm.
Just note, however, that West Elms delivery timeframes for large furniture can be quite long.
IKEA
Theres really nowhere better to find simple, straightforward, andbudget-friendly furniturethan IKEA.
And I love how innovative its ready-to-assemble furniture is, often solving small-space issues or offering ample storage.
While IKEA furniture tends to stick to a clean and simpleScandinavian designaesthetic, you do have options.
During testing, we also found it supremely comfortable and nicely durable, even in homes with pets.

Plus, theres a wealth of performance fabrics available on upholstered items.
All of Room & Boards pieces are staples that are designed to be trend-proof and outlive seasonal trend cycles.
Just note that if you’re looking for styles other than modern, your options will be limited.
I love that Apt2B allows you to customizeupholstery and color optionsusing the sites online shopping tool.
Keep in mind, though, that it’s possible for you to only shop Apt2B online.
You won’t be able to try anything out in person before buying.
A bigger product selection (and plenty of variety) is always better.
“It can cost $20,000 to $30,000 to furnish an entire home with matching sets.
Stores with broad selections allow you to try out different combinations.
A Variety of Price Points
Price obviously matters when youre shopping for furniture.
No matter your budget, furniture is always an investment.
So, dont assume that you have to shop at high-priced furniture retailers to find the best items.
After all, mixing high and low is always in style, budget or not!
If its not a fit, the furniture can be sent back at no cost.
However, while trial periods are common for items like mattresses, they arent often offered for furniture.

If youre able to take advantage of one, its an extra layer of peace of mind.
How long is the return window?
Will you have to cover the shipping costs?
On average, though, it’s possible for you to expect a 30-day return window at most retailers.
Be extra sure to examine the item upon arrival to ensure there’s no damage.
Often, if you wait more than a few weeks, it will be too late.
But many times that’s not the case, especially due to ongoing supply chain issues.
It’s also important to note how your furniture will be shipped and delivered.
If the pieces you’re purchasing will require assembly, shipping timeframes are often shorter and speedier.
Additionally, don’t overlook the timeframe for custom furniture.
When is the Best Time to Buy Furniture?
According to Maxim, youll find the cheapest furniture if you shop after a big sale.
Thats when suppliers want to eliminate surplus inventory.
More specifically, he says to look “one week after Black Friday and Father’s Day sales.”
Don’t rule out antique stores, either.
