Here’s how to keep blankets soft, all year round.
To keep blankets smelling fresh, I hang them outside for a few hours every couple of weeks.
The sunshine and fresh air work wonders on all kinds of odors.

Washing Less With Pets
My two cats love my cozy blankets as much as I do.
I wash my blankets with Woolite or another delicates detergent.
Knowhow much laundry detergent to usetoo much detergent can leave behind a thin residue on your blankets.
Use the delicate or linens cycle on your washing machine.
Don’t Use Fabric Softener
Never use fabric softeneron your cozy blankets.
Fabric softeners can break down fibers over time, leading to pilling and rough-feeling blankets.
It’s less damaging to clothes and linens, and it’s cheaper than fabric softener too.
Add 1/4 cup to the fabric softener dispenser in your washing machine.
But this isn’t always feasible, especially when it’s a cold and gloomy day.
So, when I do machine-dry my blankets, I use the air-dry or low-heat setting.
Well, drying your soft blankets on high heat is another way to damage them.
Natural fibers are a no-no in the dryer too, as they can shrink and disfigure.
They also fight static electricity too, making them a great alternative to dryer sheets.
This gives the blankets a fresh scent with no need to use dryer sheets or other laundry additives.
