“I finally went towards painting almost everything I’ve got in green, right?

Because I’ve loved green from the very beginning,” Gaines tells The Spruce.

Gaines has just released a new paint color collection with Kilz based on the lake house project.

The names of the colorslike Tranquil Waters, Juniper Tree, and Wooded Acreseven evoke nature.

This isn’t the first collection Gaines has curated based on a design project.

“With the castle collection, that was more saturated and storied,” Gaines says.

“you gotta feel that intention of that rich castle history.”

So what might we see from Gaines next?

Expect to see many more historical remodels in the future.

“It evokes life, and that’s the heart of my home.”

“No one wants to repaint their rooms every six months,” she says.

“That’s not practical.

That’s not doable.”

If you want to feel relaxed in your bathroom, choose a color that evokes that feeling.

If you want to feel energized in your kitchen, double-check your colors do that for you.

“It doesn’t always have to be a full saturation of color.”

And color isn’t the only way to add personality and visual interest to your home.

Gaines is a big believer in adding texture as welland not just with shiplap.

But that doesn’t mean shiplap doesn’t still have a place, especially for her kids.

“And the kids were, like, ‘No, it wouldn’t be the farmhouse!'”
