Remove Old Paint
Scrape off peeling, cracked, or blistered paint with the paint scraper.
Brush the Brick
With the wire brush, gently brush loose mortar from the brick seams.
If the brick face has loose matter, brush it, too.
Start at the top and work downward.
For heavy stains, clean the brick withtrisodium phosphate(TSP), warm water, and sponges.
Brick that feels dry to the touch may still be damp within its pores.
Pour paint in the paint tray.
Roll paint on the main brick surface.
Primer fills the pores in brick and mortar, allowing the paint to stick better.
But if you want to remove the paint at some point, painting brick isn’t a good idea.
It is difficult to completely remove paint from brick.
It’s also not a good idea to paint brick prone to moisture.
Instead, coat it with a breathable finish such as whitewash, limewash, or stain.
Instead of pressure washing brick before painting, it’s best to use dry methods, if possible.
Pressure washing may damage brick faces and chip away mortar.
