It takes a lot of time and effort to keep grass green and lush.

This is a fairly simple process, but doing a bit of preparation before overseeding will ensure better success.

These steps will allow the overseeding to effectively germinate for a stronger, healthier lawn.

Why Should You Overseed a Lawn?

Overseeding your lawn can help fill in bare spots and create a fuller, lusher lawn.

Overseeding can also help prevent thinning of your lawn before it starts.

Mow and Rake Your Lawn

Mow your lawn right before overseeding.

If you have an electric or gas mower with a height setting, use a low setting.

Rake the clippings and other organic material if you don’t have amulching lawnmower.

This makes it more receptive to the germination of grass seed.

Use a basic metal rake or any number of specially designed rakes made for de-thatching.

you might alsomake compost tea and apply to your lawnseveral days before overseeding.

Water as Needed

After overseeding your lawn, water lightly twice a day for four days.

Then, for five days, water a bit more heavily as the germination process intensifies.

Water regularly after that as needed, adjusting for any rainfall.

During very hot days, water in the early morning or at dusk.
