Bindweed, which is native to Europe and Asia, plagues many gardeners.
It came to the United States with contaminated seeds in the mid-1700s.
All parts of the plant are toxic to horses.

Bindweed Invasiveness
Because of its pretty flowers, bindweed has sometimes been used in hanging baskets.
This is a highly adaptable plant that thrives in a wide range of climates.
It overgrows everything around it by twining tightly around the stems of other plants.

Bindweed can spread up to 15 feet and develop deep, strong roots.
After being removed, there are likely small bits of roots left.
Bindweed has the ability to regrow its shoot system within three weeks.

It has medium-green, arrow-shaped leaves and white-pinkish flowers that look like those of morning glories.
There are two forms of the plant:C. arvensisvar.
arvensis(with broader leaves) andC.
arvensisvar.linearfolius(with narrower leaves).
Since it will be unable to photosynthesize, it will die.
You may have to do this many times, but it will eventually do the trick.
If the infestation persists, additionally use apost-emergent herbicidecontaining quinclorac as the active ingredient.
Instead, dispose of it in the trash.

It can also reduce crop yields and is toxic to livestock.
Some gardeners find that plants or mulches that shade the ground may prevent bindweed from sprouting.
Fortunately, mowing bindweed will not make it spread.
However, it does nothing to slow down growth, because mowing doesn’t affect the underground weeds.
