Plant from scratch in the spring in fertile soil in a sunny spot.

This fast-growing vine begins its aggressive climb once the soil becomes warm and blooms in about a month.

Cypress vine poses a moderate threat of toxicity to humans, cats, dogs, and horses.

Light

Cypress vine needs full sun for it to bloom.

Cypress vine, once established, is reasonablytolerant of droughtand can often get by without much fertilizing.

But soil that does not drain well will stress the plant.

It can withstand extremes of heat but will quickly wither in cold temperatures.

So, trim as needed to open up the plant a bit and allow airflow.

During the winter, cut back dead vines to allow unencumbered fresh growth in the spring.

Propagating Cypress Vine

The cypress vine is easily propagated by simply letting it seed itself.

Here’s how:

Avoiddamping off problemswith the seedlings.

The fungus that causes this problem is usually the result of overly wet and fertilized soil.

Thin out seedlings to ensure there’s plenty of air circulation.

You will also need a suitable structure for the vines to latch onto.

Pick a heavier pot, such as glazed ceramic or terra cotta, with substantial drainage holes.

It should be at least 12 inches in diameter.

Deadhead any blooms if you’re not looking for more seed germination by spring.

How Long Does Cypress Vine Bloom?

Individual blooms will last on the vine for a day or two before giving way to new ones.

This will continue for several months.

What Do Cypress Vine’s Flowers Look and Smell Like?

They do not have any noticeable fragrance.

Remove any spent vines or seed pods to prevent self-sowing and unwanted spread.

This will allow the plant to recover and regrow.

If you leave faded flowers on the vine, then seeds will germinate freely in the spring.

Deadheading will also encourage more blooms.

If you’re trying to grow additional vines, there is no need to deadhead the flowers.

Ensure proper sun exposure and soil drainage and you shouldn’t experience problems with this resilient plant.
