Before You Begin
Thisbed frameis for a standardQueen-sized bedthat’s 60 inches wide by 80 inches long.
However, the dimensions can be modified to accommodate any size bed.
It’s recommended to use self-tapping screws that don’t require pre-drilling.
you could use standard screws as long as you pre-drill the holes with an appropriate bit.
Otherwise, you risk splitting the wood.
Always wear eye and hearing protection.
Mark an X on the outsideon the opposite side youre pulling the tape measure fromof the line.
Duplicate this mark to the second 48-inch board (A).
Drive two 2-1/2-inch self-tapping screws through the back of the 48-inch board into the end of thecenter support board.
Repeat these steps on the other side of the frame.
Drive two 2-1/2-inch self-tapping screws through the back of the 56-1/2-inch board into the end of theblock.
Rest the other end of the block on the corresponding line and X on the center support board.
Repeat the above steps for all six blocks on each mark you made.
What Is Toenailing?
Stand the 2x4s upright to protrude 5-1/2 inches from the top of the frame.
Doing so will keep the wood from splitting.
Repeat these steps on the opposite end of the 60-inch board with another 78-inch board.
Drive two 2-1/2-inch self-tapping screws through the back of the 60-inch board into the end of thecenter support board.
Mark an X on the opposite side of the line from which you pulled your tape measure.
Repeat for the other side of the frame, and on the center support board.
Drive two 2-1/2-inch self-tapping screws through the back of the 78-inch board into the end of theblock.
Rest the other end of the block on the corresponding line and X on the center support board.
Repeat the above steps for all 10 blocks on each mark you made.
Align the top frame’s center support board with the base frame’s center support board.
The blocks on both frames should be aligned.
The vertical 2x4s protruding from the base frame should rest against the face of the top frame’s blocks.
Include all four sides, the center support board, and the 10 blocks.
It costs about $200 to $300 to build a DIY floating bed frame.
