This reduces the risk of inhaling paint fumes while working.

Use a drill and construction screws to fasten the horizontal blocking to the existing framework.

If the ceiling is not open, use a stud finder to locate the joists.

Carefully scan the ceiling to find the joists, then mark the location with a pencil.

If using thin beadboard planks, the job will take a bit longer to complete.

Line up the next board, then slide the groove into the tongue of the first board.

Secure the board with construction adhesive andbrad nails.

Continue this process until the entire ceiling is covered.

Depending on the size of the room, there may also be gaps between the sections of beadboard paneling.

These gaps can be covered by installing trim.

Cut and install corner trim at the edges of the beadboard ceiling.

Install two-inch batten strips across any visible seams between the sections of beadboard paneling.

It also reduces the damage triggered by UV radiation and temperature fluctuations.

If you are staining the beadboard, apply the stain without worrying about aprimer.

Just verify to fill any nail holes before staining the beadboard.

If painting the beadboard, apply a coat of primer with a paintbrush and paint roller.

After the primer dries, apply one to two coats of paint to finish the ceiling.
