Manganese Deficiency

Manganese is an essential nutrient for healthy foliage development of sago palms.

When the plant receives insufficient manganese, the new growth leaves turn yellowa condition colloquially known as frizzle top.

In time, these pale and sometimes distorted leaves turn brown and die.

How to Fix Manganese Deficiency

Test the soil to determine if there is a manganese deficiency.

If the soil test reveals sufficient levels of manganese, then check the pH of the soil.

You should only water a sago palm when the top few inches of soil is dry to the touch.

If poor soil drainage is to blame for the situation, be sure toamend the soil to improve drainage.

Essentially, the plant becomes scorched, causing the yellowing effect on the fronds.

Replant the sago palm in an appropriate location or move a container plant to a suitable spot.

For indoor sago palms, avoid west-facing windows because they receive direct afternoon sun.

Temperature Changes

Sago palms prefer warm, humid growing conditions.

This is especially likely to be true for sago palms grown indoors.

Instead, apply manganese sulfate in an amount appropriate for the size of the plant.

To know if coffee grounds would be good for your sago palm, test your soil pH first.
