This is especially true if your fireplace is near the entrance to another room.

Placing your sofa and accent chairs off to one side will leave the entrance wide open.

This will create a sense of symmetry and balance in your living room.

Keep in mind that furniture should be at least three feet away from functioning fireplaces.

In living rooms with non-corner fireplaces, putting a sofa directly across from it is a common choice.

Throw a TV into the mix, and things can get even more complicated.

For example, there may not be two flat walls on either side of the fireplace.
